How to Add Markers in Logic Pro

Music Production

Logic Pro has two kinds of markers: standard markers, for labeling moments, and arrangement markers, for whole song sections that move their regions with them. Both live in Logic's global tracks.

Show the marker track

  1. Open the global tracks: Track → Global Tracks → Show Global Tracks.
  2. If no Marker track appears, right-click the global track area and turn on Marker (Global Track Configuration). You can also switch an existing global track to Marker by clicking its name and picking from the menu.

Add, move and rename a marker

  1. Place the playhead where you want the marker.
  2. Click the + button on the Marker track. The marker appears at the playhead.
  3. Move it by clicking and dragging. Resize it by dragging its edges.
  4. Rename it by clicking the marker's name and typing.

Arrangement markers (move whole sections)

Arrangement markers are added, moved, resized and renamed the same way, but they're tied to the regions inside them. Drag an arrangement marker and every region in that section moves with it. Great for trying a second chorus earlier or swapping verse order.

Keep notes in Logic

The Note Pad in Logic Pro

Logic's Note Pad sits in the top right of the window. Open it with the Note Pad button or Option+Cmd+P. It has two tabs:

  • Project: notes for the whole session.
  • Track: notes for the selected track.

You can change fonts and text size to keep things readable.

Markers are for you. Comments are for your collaborators.

Markers and the Note Pad stay inside your Logic project. When the feedback is coming from someone else, like a client, an artist or a co-producer, they need something they can open anywhere. With Notetracks, you share a bounce by link and collaborators leave timestamped comments right on the waveform, so nobody has to describe "the bit around 2 minutes in" again.
